Why is Alibre so inexpensive?

09-03-2010

There is general human perception that “if something is inexpensive that product lacks quality”, but Alibre might be a best example to disprove this. We all know and have seen hundreds of different CAD/CAM Packages available in the market today.  And for a package like Alibre which doesn’t even come close to those expensive software’s when it comes to pricing. But when it comes to maintaining quality and efficiency it’s almost the same. This situation here raises a lot of questions like why is Alibre so in expensive? How is it possible for a company to sell such an effective CAD package for such a cheap price? Etc.

Though I might not have a perfect answer for the second question I will make sure first question will be answered well. Alibre believes in making CAD/CAM available to everyone for an affordable price. Especially in situations where most companies are affected by Global recession and are thinking of cutting costs wherever possible Alibre comes in handy. It is a bit saddening to know that many companies in the past have underestimated the power of Alibre and have recently started realizing the importance of an inexpensive and effective CAD/CAM package.  We can see this explained in a very convincing way in one of the Alibre blogs in March 2009, the blogger says “During the boom years, Alibre was sort of like the Rodney Dangerfield of 3D CAD, we couldn’t get any respect. Companies would learn about Alibre, check out our product, learn that we could do the job and then buy SolidWorks or Inventor anyway. When asked why they would say “my boss doesn’t understand how Alibre can be so inexpensive” or that they “wanted to make the popular choice to use what others were using” or that “cost was not a factor” ”

But now many companies have started viewing Alibre in a completely different way. This change in the companies’ way of viewing  Alibre only occurred  when they realized that a CAD package which is 4 to 5 times less expensive that the other similar packages and does the required work with equal amount of efficiency. Alibre also comes in handy and is already famous among lot of hobbyist’s the reason obviously being the cost factor again.

Alibre has been welcomed and liked by a lot of companies and hobbyist’s in Australia too. A lot of companies in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, etc have started using Alibre Design one of the Alibre users. Look what one of Alibre users in Melbourne had to say “I have used Inventor before and have found I can pick up Alibre fairly easily. I was quite interested in using it for my own hobby work. However I do need the sheet metal capability which makes the package a lot more expensive. The software is quite handy though and work is trialing it. I have recommended it to a number of others who run 'cottage' industries and are interested in moving up to 3D CAD without the hefty price tag.”

And with recent addition of Alibre Translate, companies can be successful with their older CAD files and take advantage of Alibre’s Professional, Affordable 3D CAD.
